Our Story
One espresso machine, one oven, and a corner on Maple Street.
The Bean is a neighborhood coffee shop and bakery where small-batch roasts meet from-scratch pastries, served by people who learn your name and your order.
It started with a wobbly second-hand espresso machine in 2016 and a stubborn idea: that a coffee shop should feel less like a transaction and more like a front porch. We signed a lease on a tired storefront at 214 Maple Street, painted it ourselves over three long weekends, and opened the doors before we were entirely ready. The first morning we sold eleven coffees. The eleventh customer came back the next day, and the day after that, and never really left.
Nearly a decade later, the porch is still the point. We roast in small batches a few blocks away so the beans never sit, and we laminate our croissant dough by hand because the machine-folded shortcut just is not the same. Our baker is in the kitchen by four every morning. Our head barista can tell your mood from the way you push open the door.

We are not trying to be the biggest or the trendiest. We would rather be the place you stop on a hard morning, the spot your kid had their first hot chocolate, the table where two strangers became friends over a shared power outlet. That is the whole business plan, honestly.
What we believe in
Close to home
We roast locally, bake on-site, and buy from growers and farmers we can actually call by name. Shorter supply chains, better coffee, fewer regrets.
No rush, ever
Linger as long as you like. We will never hover for the table. Outlets at every seat, free Wi-Fi, and refills with a smile.
Fair to everyone
Our team is paid a living wage and tips are pooled and shared. Good coffee should not come at someone else’s expense.
